› Male Sexual Dysfunction

Impotence. Failure to launch. Not getting it up. Call it what you will, male sexual dysfunction is more common than people realize. Most men are taught to believe that when a woman is ready, they should be as well. The woman's ready? The man must be ready. Reality, however, doesn't work like that. At some point in their lives, most men will experience some kind of erectile dysfunction. They won't be able to get an erection, even if they want to do so. Because of the virility myth surrounding men, when one does experience a sexual problem, he gets embarrassed and feels as though he is a . Men experiencing sexual dysfunction need to know they aren't alone. In fact, as men grow older, they will become more and more likely to experience some sort of sexual problem. An unhealthy lifestyle can further aggravate the issues. A man who isn't in good health cannot experience great sex.

Overweight men will tend to have more physical sexual dysfunctions than will their leaner counterparts. Nonsmoking men tend not to have as many physical sexual issues as those men who do use tobacco. Men who don't get enough sleep or drink too much alcohol or caffeinated drinks will experience sexual problems. At the Center for Sexual Health & Education, we believe that a healthy man is that much closer to attaining a fulfilling sex life.

Even the healthiest man will sometimes not perform as well as he might want. So, let's take time to go over some specific male sexual problems.

The most common -- or at least most well publicized -- issue men might have is with erectile dysfunction, or ED. This is defined as the inability to get or maintain an erection to orgasm. Despite what most men think, they can't simply will an erection. An erection is an involuntary response to mental, visual or tactile stimulation. It might look simple, but an erection is a complex event involving blood flow, hormones, and the nervous and psychological systems of the body. Our clinic's comprehensive evaluation and treatment programs make it much more likely that erectile dysfunction treatment can be successful.

The stereotype about men is they think about sex all the time and walk around with an almost-constant erection. However, there are a growing number of men who suffer from low libido, which means a lack of desire for sex, as well as a lack of spontaneous erections and sexual fantasies. Again, the reasons behind this are complex and related to a large number of basic causes, varying from hormone deficiencies, to drug side effects and relationship difficulties. Male patients at our clinic will undergo a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, which almost always can find the root cause and help point the way to a solution.

Premature ejaculation is defined as the early release of the sperm and loss of the erection before the male penetrates the vagina or before his partner is sexually satisfied. Our highly trained specialists have a number of methods to help men cope with and overcome this problem.

On the other side is a less common problem called orgasm dysfunction. This means men have difficulty in achieving -- or a total absence of -- climax or the intensely pleasurable release sensation at the height of their sexual arousal. This can be caused by a number of factors, which our clinic is adept at evaluating and treating.

Finally, ejaculation dysfunction is a decrease or total loss of volume and force to the release of sperm. We have solutions that are simple and quite effective.

Most male sexual problems can be improved with dietary and lifestyle changes. Our clinic will develop individualized programs to help facilitate these changes. We have years of experience in helping men discover the solutions to male sexual dysfunction. Working with our staff, men will almost always achieve a happier, closer relationship with their loved one.
